I picked this 1921-D Morgan up over the weekend and I am fairly certain that this is a 1921-D VAM 1J.

What do you think?

(sorry for the small sellers images )

Yes, absolutely. 1J, EDS. Not as desirable as the LDS, the coin with the full, completed two-way break over the A, but no slouch all the same.

I'm completely comfortable with the attribution; I sold the Condition Census LDS 1J a couple years ago, an NGC 65. This is (realistically) R.3 as EDS and R.7 as LDS. Nice coin.

Ever since I have been bitten by the VAM bug, I have placed a lot more scrutiny on every Morgan dollar that I have been looking at for my "Mint Mark Collection VAM-Style".

The LDS would definitely put a chink in my "slush fund"!

I just noticed that PCGS does not recognize the 1921-D VAM 1J (and a whole bunch of others). Hmmm, looks like my VAM-Style collection choices is being dwindled down if I want PCGS attributed inserts.

Yeah, that's a bit of a conundrum - everyone knows PCGS slabs bring more in the marketplace, but they'll only attribute what they consider "important" VAMs. With that said, if you're going to buy it as a VAM and sell it as a VAM, you'll discover that an ANACS slab won't hinder the price much. VAMmers know who's behind ANACS VAMs, and they'll pony up the cash for one they want.
