I just received 2 bullion ASEs graded out at MS 70. There seems to be a stark difference in the coins. I wanted to see if anyone else is seeing the same thing, or if it is just these 2 coins. The SanFran coin has more of an old frosty look to it, kind of like the way the Morgans look if you know what I mean. The West Point coin has a more modern surface look, I guess you could say something like the bright side of foil. I also have two other graded bullion coins that do not state what mint they are from, but they also appear to look more like the frosty SanFran coin than the West Point coin. Has anyone else seen this in their bullion ASEs?

I have seen both what I call shiny and burnished W's from the same year. They look like completely different coins. maybe that is what you are seeing....

Teach, since the coins are from different mints, I am not surprised you are noticing a difference. Often times you can tell a Denver business from a Philly business coin. So I can see there being a difference for the ASEs.

A lot of it has to do with the newness of the dies. A new die in SF will look different than a worn die in WP and visa versa . The newer the die, the stronger the strike.

Thanks, I was just wondering if anyone else had bullion ASEs from each mint and if they were seeing the same thing I am. I really enjoy both coins. I like how the S coins look like the old frosted silver dollars. Not sure if the newness of the dies are causing the difference in the surface look, all of my coins are MS70 that I am looking at and appear to be well struck.
