Going to look at a 1843 Liberty Seated $1 tomorrow that is graded XF45 by PCGS. I am trying to determine value without seeing the coin first. If it looks nice and appears graded correctly how much is it worth?
Thanks
Ron

There's a recent completed ebay listing for $595, so that's your ballpark. For exceptional eye appeal, it wouldn't surprise me to see an asking price of 10-20% higher.

Don't go always by auction results. If this is a really eye appealing XF45, it could cost even more! use the auction as a guide.

$648 is the average public auction result for a PCGS XF45 over the past 2 years. Without seeing it there's no way to tell where it would fall in range that goes from $545 to $805.

Big help, thanks everyone. I was actually in the LCS and mentioned that I needed one for my 7070. Dealer picked up the phone and bought one from another dealer on the spot. He quoted me $600 if I was interested. He got the coin today and said he was surprised it didn't grade higher.....yeah yeah. So if I like it tomorrow when I see it, I will probably bring it home.

Numis has xf40 listed at 650.
The PCGS site might have pictures of it if you can get the cert number and look it up

Wow, great choice on coin! Can't wait to see pics! I just bought the same one yesterday.. 1843 Seated dollar, Only raw, and EF-40! I paid $455.. But after some haggling, lol. Probably because I spent another $600 there on top of this one.. But were it slabbed I've no doubt I would have paid more. I kinda like buying raw though.. As long as you have an idea on how to grade, and trust the person your getting it from you can't beat the price. I would have never bought it raw online or such, but I trust my coin guy, he's never steered me in the wrong direction grade wise. He's the only one of the 3 local shops I trust with his grades... Too bad he's the farthest of the 3 away, lol. I was just about to post about it and the 1826 half I got when I saw your post! Wow.. That's funny we both got, well getting the same year in a matter of days! Congrats, and again can't wait to see it!

Wow. IMO, that's an incredible coin and I think you should be very, very happy with that purchase. It's a beautiful example of a tough type. Congrats on the addition.
