Good evening,

My parents are heading to the U.S. for a month and have promised to keep their eyes open for the National Park and State Quarters for me (I have found one State and ATB here in Canada so far). I was wondering how frequent they are in change? Is it worth it for them to grab a few rolls from the bank to see how many they can find?

Thanks!

It really just depends on where you are and some of it is the luck of the draw. If they grabbed a few rolls of quarters from the bank youd almost certainly get at least some state or ATB if not both

In change at stores (here in Georgia), I have been getting half clad, half Statehood, and maybe 1 or 2 out of 100 is a ATB.

In Michigan (howdy neighbor), we see a lot of State Quarters, but I don't think I've ever found an ATB in my pocket change.

The frequency of ATB Quarters seems to vary quite a bit by location. State Quarters on the other hand seem common as dirt.

Thanks for all the help! They'll be in Myrtle Beach so I might see if they can CRH through some rolls for me while they're there. My dad collects coins too so he would probably have fun with that.

Thanks again!

East coast means he will get all Phila. ATB's if any. I roll about 10 rolls worth of quarters per month of pocket change. Since last Feb, when the kids and I got our ATB book, we have found all the Phila. ATBs except the first 2010 Hot Springs. I have a roll and a half of duplicates in a year of looking and only 2 Denver. I live in Mass. , still are missing all territory D mint quarters and a handful of D mint State Quarters.
.
Still amazes me how long it takes D mint quarters to travel east

Your mom says thanks in advance for ruining the vacation

Most banks dont really seem to keen these days on giving out rolls to people who arent members so that could be an issue for that. If they use cash the whole time though you could probably get a pretty decent State Quarter collection out of it

i never get asked if I'm a member if I ask for 10-20 rolls, but if I ask for a box they always ask..

Like anything else it probably depends where you go. Either BB&T or Bank Of America (may be both) wont even cash a check for you from one of their members unless you pay them 10 dollars to do it. I cant remember which one but I tried that not to long ago when I was out of town since my banks werent near by and they tried to charge me for that.

Haha... Luckily my mom loves having a mission :) Plus it gives her more excuses to go shopping to get change.

So from the sounds of it, a month there - shopping mostly with cash - and they might find a decent number of different ones for me. If that's the case, I should be able to easily finish off the set with some minor purchases afterwards (there is a coin shop here near me that sells circulated ones for $1 each; which is fine for a handful but a bit much when buying the whole collection).

Thanks everyone!

Hi Basebal21 - Any idea what banks might be most amenable to giving out 5-10 rolls to a non-member?

Cheers!

Just another idea. Have them look for a car wash and just stick in as much money as they want. You get nothing but quarters back from the change machine. Might be easier than dealing with a bank.

Yeah, I would suggest anywhere with a change machine, much like BLUEZONE did. Arcade, Laundromat, Car Wash. You will definitely find some State Quarters. Territory and ATB Quarters are a bit trickier, but not impossible, especially in a resort town like Myrtle Beach.

Good Luck!
