Hello, Second attempt to show my 1922 Peace dollar. First attempt failed because images would not download. Coin from my Mothers estate, UN-circulated probably for decades. Coin does not seem to exhibit sheen/reflection, only a minimally reflective glare.

Does not look uncirculated. What is the VAM on it? John1

It's seen a little bit of circulation. Unfortunately, the horizontal hairlines I see - particularly on the bottom half of the obverse - indicate it's been brushed at some point, destroying any collector value above melt.

Correction: John1 thought I said "uncirculated", what I said was Un-circulated "for decades". My Mom passed away at 93 yrs of age in 2000. She was not a coin collector and I don't have a clue when or where She acquired a 1921 Peace dollar coin. If the coin was "brushed" in any way there would be a thin "halo" around the edges of the artwork and lettering where the flat meets the raised. The "Texture" of the surface is consistent everywhere except minimal sheen where raised surfaces are. which are possibly from handling. A real puzzle. I live in P.R. and don't have a coin shop to do a comparison with other examples, or get a hands on "Pro" opinion.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course, but pictures don't lie. Look at the back of the neck on the obverse and inside the curls of the 9 and 2's in the date, and on the reverse at the left junction of the eagle's neck and shoulder. Those are the places the cleaning didn't reach.

Jim D,
Take my advise. When it comes to silver dollars, SsuperDdave will not steer you wrong (and that ain't no bull). No one person here is trying to snake a silver dollar out of you for less than what it's worth. I too see the horizontal brush lines or scuff marks. Your 1922 is a common coin and in my opinion, I don't think you'd get much more than 27 dollars for it unless it was purchased by someone who didn't care or someone who didn't know. It sounds like the coin has sentimental value and you are probably going to pass it on to your kids. Welcome to this forum. Stick around. There is a wealth of information right here on CCF.

@SsuperDdave,
I'm on a budget - what can I say? The 1921 needed a home, and I found a spot that would almost certainly remain empty.
I never noticed the places the cleaning missed. Cleared a few issues I had with my own coins up.
