I am fascinated with the high-end MS65+ coins... but...

I've seen some collections of the low-ball circulated commemoratives and wonder who here is collecting those as well? I find it kind of interesting, after I saw a series of these, and started to look for lower end versions and realized I wasn't the only one.

I'm not talking beat up - "dumped on the tarmac" - coinage, but those that were circulated with apparent gusto.

So if anyone here has some of these - show them off!

There are already a few great ongoing threads here with outstanding examples of circulated commemoratives.

Take a few minutes to seach this section and you'll find great info on them from nickelsearcher, HONDO and Not Mint to Be.

I have been in pursuit of an honestly circulated classic silver commemorative 50 coin type set for over 3 years now.

Somewhere in this forum you can find a long running thread of appx 14 pages that describes my challenges, victories, set-backs and hopes of someday collecting a complete circulated 50-coin type set of these amazing examples of USA coinage.

My complete PCGS MS65 or better type set pales in comparison to the challenge of completing the circulated set ...

These are coins that mostly were never intended to circulate ... and the market availability of many of them requires years between coins becoming available.

There are several active forum members pursuing this set ...

Not Mint to Be holds the all-time greatest collection of circulated commemorative and his dedication to acquire the collection is simply amazing.

HONDO is a relative newcomer to the passion ... but dedicated to the quest.

For fun ... photos of two favorites from my circulated classic silver commemorative set ...

1936 Gettysburg Half Dollar - PCGS VG10

Lowball-Commemorative-Collections

1893 Isabella Quarter Dollar - PCGS AG03

Lowball-Commemorative-Collections

IMHO this is the most difficult set of USA 20th century coins to acquire ... patience and dedication in pursuit of a collecting goal are the key.

I think the set might be just as interesting as the +65 set. The "experience" those 2 coins represent is perfect! Like you mentioned, these were not meant to circulate, yet some obviously did. Since many of these were made at a time when fifty cents was still a sizable part monthly and yearly income it was inevitable that some would. Then to have many survive multiple wars, some the great depression and the silver melt of the 70's and yet make it to someone to sell on the market today is a back story I'd love to hear (or even just hold). You know your 2 coins didn't get slid into a sock drawer and forgotten until a grandparent passed away!

My number 1 goal will be to find as many pristine examples as I can of the 50 cent commemoratives - which is daunting enough... but I also plan on looking for those aged perfections of experience as well.

I'm guilty. You can check out my set (Not Mint to Be) in the Lowball commem part of the PCGS registry.

I do have what would be a PO01 Isabella but keeps getting bb for different reasons.
