I just purchased a lot of 15 uncirculated Washington dollar coins with the NO EDGE LETTERING ERROR. I'm thinking to send them in for grading before reselling.

It appears that PCGS will charge $40 each for "Mint Error" service with a 25-35 (business) days turnaround.

NGC will grade them under "Modern" service for $12.50 each with a 12 (business) days turnaround. That's $412 cheaper! And in 1/2 to 1/3 the time!

On the other hand, PCGS NO EDGE LETTERING ERRORS seem to be selling for more than their NGC counterparts. Simply speaking, if the PCGS coins will sell for $28 or more than the NGC coins, which I think they easily will, I've made up my difference.

On the other hand, it could be that the long turnaround time will hurt resale value. And I'm tying up the extra $412. Also, I have no idea how each coin will grade or which service might grade this coin higher.

Any advice or ideas?

I was under the impression that these were still selling for $500+ each. I haven't been looking at them for a while though. That being said, if you bought a "lot" of 15 and you didn't pay a premium, I would question their authenticity. Ok, enough of the pessimistic thinking and on to your question. I think you have the two biggest questions at the forefront of your mind already! Will waiting diminish my return? Will I get the appropriate gross margin out of NGC.

I think it depends if YOU plan on keeping any of them. If I was in for a quick turn around, I would go with NGC. I would however pick a couple that seem to be the best of the bunch and send them to PCGS for my own collection and potential sale later if prices go up for some reason.

These are absolutely just my opinions on things!!!!!

Consider weighing them, as real ones sell from $70-$120. THey should weigh 7.98 grams, whereas fakes weigh around 7.89 grams. Dont consider sending them off until you can prove their authenticity.

As the no edge lettering coins have their own PCGS coin number I believe they would be submitted under the modern service at $14 a pop and 20 day turnaround. Certainly worth checking before you make a decision. Good Luck!!!

Agreed - worth checking as there are some !@#$%^&*() who filed the edges off and it appaerently didn't take much effort to do so.
