Nice find indeed! (the seller blatantly ripped off the items description from my listing of the same set.... I'd double check that the coins are indeed flawless as listed. The 1989 proof GML often develop unsightly red spots.)

My only concern is that the seller wants me to wire the money because of the PayPal fees and the fact the item sold very cheap. I would prefer to use PayPal because I should have some recourse and I can get points on my credit card.
How common are these red spots? What causes them? I'm not going to start up with the seller since she took a huge it. I'm guessing this set is worth more than just billion. Any idea what the issue price was back in 1989?

Issue price = $1395 (but gold was worth a lot less in the early 90s)
Always a risk when wiring... careful and good luck.
I've owned or have seen in person 4-5 of these sets and 10-12 of just the 1 oz, and I've only ever seen 2 spotless 1oz. The set I'm selling now I had to replace the 1oz that came with the set with another so the whole set is spot-free.
Copper spots they are toning from the minute impurities in the gold (though I've also heard it's an issue with just the outer surface/layer, contaminated during striking and improperly stored later - e.g. not air tight)

I have no plan to wire any money. I'll only do PayPal only as per the ad. As the ad sits, the seller has excellent feedback. Would you or anyone jump on this deal using PayPal?

What risk is there? I'm lost. I said I have the option to pay using PayPal. What is the risk? Please explain.

My mistake. If only wire transfer option I will not take it.
Too many scams out there. Below is my own experience.
I remember when I was selling a brand new laptop on Kijiji.
I got at least 10 replies asking for my bank account or paypal account. Said he/she wanted to buy my laptop, but currently in state or oversea.
I wonder, Woa, a person out of country browsing a GTA local Ad to find a deal. Gimme a break those people.

I would've jumped on the deal in a heart beat. Find the money to pay for it later :)

Now the person is disputing the transaction because she is asking for a wire transfer and I told her that I only agreed to PayPal. A case has been opened to close the transaction and her to get her item back. Do I have a recourse? I want the set but don't want to wire $3000 now that she changed the terms.

You already paid using Paypal? There is no way I would wire money. You lose your protection. Your only recourse is probably to leave negative feedback when the purchase is cancelled. It's not like ebay can force the seller to send the item. They could deny a refund of the final value fee, but I don't know how they handle such a situation.

@jsinger21 NICE BUY!! I was checking this auction as well... was a perfect candidate for a good deal: 1. One-day auction 2. Starting price 0.99$ 3. No reserve 4. Auction time: Tuesday 3 PM to Wednesday 3 PM Unfortunately, I had to go to a unplanned meeting 30 minutes before the auction ended and I couldn't place a bid in time. Lucky you as I would have bid more than that! ;) Anyway, I'm glad that is someone here that finally got it. Maybe not a happy ending tough... it's sad how people are not accepting the final prices... I mean, a one-day auction is risky, ebay is a risk every time you put something there. If you're not willing to sell below a certain amount, just put a starting price or reserve!! If you want to have more bidders by starting at 99ΒΆ, good to you but you risk this. Edit: This set is on sale for 3,500$ in a local store for a few weeks and I'm hesitating since I saw it. It's a good price, but not a crazy deal. 3030$ is a steal... it's melt value! Ok gold just lose value today, but still.

You could offer to pay part of the paypal fee if it's really a great deal. Paypal charges 2.9%.
I would still leave negative feedback.

I disputed the transaction while on the phone with ebay. Next I paid. All I can do now is wait and see if she mails it. ebay said if she doesn't mail the item after receiving the money, I can get my money back and leave a negative feedback.

Nothing much you can do except leave negative feedback. Don't want to alarm you but what the seller could do is to mail you a carton of eggs instead of the coins and give you a tracking number which shows delivered. If I were you, I would not have tried to push the issue and "force" the seller to send you the coins. Imho just not worth the hassle. Give the negative feedback and move on.

It's a good deal. Stick to your guns on PayPal. That the seller's risk with an auction. The seller can opt to not send the item and suffer your negative feedback. If the seller does back out, you missed a good deal, but you're no worse off than you were before, so don't let it get you down.
