I have alot of bank rolled quarters that I want to store in plastic tubes to protect them. I tried putting a roll in a tube and it wont fit. I know I've seen people do this before. Do I need a different sized tube?

You probably need the next size up to store already wrapped coins. All the plastic tubes I've seen have been snug fits for their denomination.

I guess I'm wrong but I thought I had seen people do this before. maybe not.

Why should I take them out of the roll? It's bank rolled State Quarters. I'm not a big State Quarter collector but my Uncle gave me all 50 states in bank rolls and I want to protect them. One of the rolls is already torn so I taped it up.

Thanks!

I believe Numis brand square tubes won't accommodate rolled coins but CoinSafe brand square tubes have a slightly oversize inner diameter and will accommodate rolled coins.

However, I'm not sure of the wisdom of leaving coins in paper wrappers for long-term storage purposes.

Edit: In the case of bank-rolled unc State Quarters, keeping them in the original wrappers may be critical to the maintenance of their value. It might well be mandatory to keep them in those original wrappers.

I put my rolls of "mint wrapped" State Quarters in numismedia square tubes. Sometime it is tight and the top does not fit on all the way. Most times it fits.

I do have a few round tubes that hold 50 coin (quarter), I am not sure where I got them.

Then I put the rolls in storage boxes, I have them in 20 and 50 roll boxes.

In my experience when they are left in the paper rolls, some coins can get a light gold tone ... Some stay the same.

I myself don't like to store anything in rolls. I just feel like they're too susceptible to clanking around on each other. Just my two wheat pennies.

If they're in orig. shotgun paper rolls...I'd be prone to keeping them as such....Store them in a larger plastic tube....I have vacuum sealed some of my rolls,,Don't know if it's wise or not....It worked well....Seems to me there is a premium for some State Quarter rolls i.e. Ill. Calif. Ga.,,,,,,If they are in clear plastic rolls, I'n not sure it will matter how they're stored.....IMHO

Keep them in the original rolls! They hold a value that way.

I know I have seen tubes made to fit rolls before, but darned if I can find them now.

The air tight tubes are a great way to store proofs. Put the proof in an air tight and drop in the roll. I have several of them.

Definitely keep them in the original wrappers, and just put them in a ziplock bag or something. The paper and having them all butted up against each other will keep them protected well. I guarantee that in 100 years they will be just as shiny, no need for airtight storage.

I have heard plastic is definitely the way to go over paper for long term coin roll storage, mainly because the colors can change.

If they don't fit wrap the rolls up in marked acid free paper and put those in slightly larger tubes.

Does anyone know if the rolls sold by the US Mint are rolled in acid free paper? I would doubt it but someone might know the true answer...and if they are...what year did the Mint start using acid free? Run of the mill bank rolls (not from the mint) I unroll and place in a plastic Harris tube.

I know this thread is old, but I just started this other thread. These tubes will fit rolled quarters very nicely.

Thanks for the info. I actually sold my set or quarters a few months ago. If not I would buy these. I've seen too many mint paper rolls bust open or tear.
