Quick question to clarify the meaning of an often-seen description.

Does "extra thickness seen on [whatever feature]" refer to depth or to width?

Width mostly with a little more depth as well.. Here is a nice example of extra thickness http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/dies...ie_state=mds
Also the word "spread" is sometimes used.

Doing a side by side comparision is the best way to see extra thickness:
Meaning-Of-
Note the normal image (top)? The two doubled dies are pictured below it. The extra thickness can be seen on the doubled dies. The second image on on all letters of LIBERTY. The third one only only the RTY. So in this case the term Extra thickness means wider devices.

The pics you show show notching on the letters and the link I gave for the 1989 shows no notching or am I not seeing them?

Class 6 Distended Hub Doubling is the only class of doubled dies that does not have the distinctive notching associated with the other eight classes.
