I am not familiar with these coins but IMHO this is very artful PMD. To me it looks like someone very skilled shaved the coin and modified it, the B and R are there but lower than the other letters.

This could have value to the right buyer - the wow factor is definitely present.

Dave, the Australian Pre Decimal Florin is a rather large coin, just a fraction smaller the a U.S. Half Dollar.
I think this coin is some very cleverly crafted carving.

The original portion/strike of the coin does appear to be much more worn than the second... Kind of reminds me of a a Hobo nickel...

The nose & mouth does not match, and also believe the rim damage at K3 is proof of PMD...

cheri if you are interested use the search engine and type in "Hobo Nickels" and you will find some fascinating photos of U.S.A. five cent coins (nickels) that have been carved by people.!
Your coin is I believe a wonderful example of this art.!

Coin art for me too. The portraits are different.Nose is upturned and longer.Lips are different. The more I look at it the worse my headache gets. Would like to see it in the hand.

A lamination is when a thin piece of the planchet peels off. Sometimes, it can remain attached by a small piece of metal.

I'd say it's an unfinished carving. It looks like the 'carver' knew what he was doing, but gave up part way through.
