Is it worth $72 to join the ANA for one year and receive their magazine? What do you guys think? (Remember, I'm in Canada...) Thanks!

I too, have often wondered . How many forum members belong to ANA. The ANA has been plagued for years by mismanagement, possible embezzlement. The last two presidents have been unceremoniously fired, the last suing the ANA. I'm very interested to hear whether members still think it is a viable assoc. ? Worth the fees? Just going through a hard time but with it's history and strong membership it will bounce back ? I'm very interested in joining also

I really have no idea but I would rather spend my money on coins. If you want to read about coins, only a few dollars to loose. Then if not happy, just drop it.

I belong to the ANA, I really enjoy the Numismatist magazine. I recently switched to the online version though. Saved me $18.00 a year. Noahs, would your membership fee be cheaper if you went with the online version of the magazine?

Yeah, going with the basic would save me $48. Did you find it just as enjoyable and beneficial with the basic membership?

Actually, it wasn't the presidents who were fired, it was the executive directors. The first REALLY deserved it, the second I don't know the reasons. Yes, they have had some less than stellar management in the past, but they are doing much better now. Their magazine is top notch, covering basic to advanced coin collecting articles, their library is one of the largest coin collecting loaning libraries in the world and their summer seminars are outstanding. They also have an excellent YN program. In the long run, if you put effort into using what they offer, it is worth while. If you want to pay the dues and expect to be spoon fed, you will probably be disappointed.

I have only read one issue online so far but I believe I will like it after I figure everything out. The online magazine is in HD Digital so it is crystal clear. Alot of bells and whistles to play with and you can go back and read past issues.

You can check my byline! I love the ANA and they have done nothing but good things for me. From winning a young numismatist scholarship to attend a week with Q. David Bowers - right before the Garrett sales. I've since attended over a dozen more. The library deal is worth the price of admission, check out just about any book they have for free! (you pay shipping and return costs only) The education and friendships I've had in my coin life have all almost all come from the ANA in one way or another. Buy a Life Membership while you're young - you won't be sorry in 25 years! P.S. Current President and a couple board members are friends of mine too, as are past president, board members and staff. Great people!
