Heres a new Seaeted Quarter I picked up this week! I love it! I was going to get a regular Arrows and Ray's quarter to match the Half I bought a while back and have been watching for one I like for quite some time now. Then I found this one... and fell in love! I love this overdate variety! The only quarter, if not any coin I know of with the earlier date being the date stamped over a later date! and this one appears to be a very early die state, with the stem of the 4 from the top loop od the 3 to just below the middle point of the 3. From what I understand usually only the doubling on the arrow is visable and quite rare with the 4 showing let alone in this condition. I paid $250.00 for this one which I feel as an unbelievably great deal! I got it on ebay, and the sellers photos were horrible... you couldnt even see the overdate, not really clear details at all. All of their coins were this way... so I had a few people bidding against me, but all dropped out early, I'm assuming due to the pics. But there was a 14 day, no questions asked, postage paied return so I risked it and I believe it paid off! I brought it to my favorite coin store, and I trust my mans grading to be dead on and wanted him to make sure it was the overdate variety just to be safe, although from the pics theres no doubt. He as well as others who worked at the store I know (as well as 2 reguars I've seen in there) wanted to see it, lol (all looking at it alone) said between EF-40 and AU and all said natrual (my guy said EF-45).I see it easily at EF-40 and no lower.. more likley EF-45 or possibley even AU-50. What do you guys think? Worth sending this one for grading? I just got a USB cam and still working on the lighting... so the pics are a bit off, its got a beautiful patina to it and still shows luster in places... I just love it!!

nice pick up EF seems right on not sure if it hits 45 though pole's a bit worn into the arm and a bit of loss on her head details with 114 die pairings used however and 15MM struck, it could be weak strike taking her down would need to see it in hand to determine luster spots
awesome quarter

EF40/45 maybe an old cleaning (to be expected) and doubt it would push it into details. If it makes an 1853/4 holder (don't want to call it as I'm no expert in the SL area of overdates) it's at least a $500.00 coin so yep, ya done good!

I don't mean to be a killjoy but the coin appears to have altered surfaces that might be from cleaning/polishing. The color is off for a circulated silver coin. I would grade it XF Details - Altered Surfaces.
$250 seems like a fair price though. It's close to a $500 coin without problems.

Wicked nice coin! The shadow of the extra arrow shaft is a great tell when cherry picking this over-date. It appears to be a late die state. Submitting this may result in a lower grade than you are expecting, but will have the overdate noted on the label.

I think BH1964 is correct in that this coin may have been cleaned. Still a great find.

I know it's been a while since I made this origional post, but I've since sent the coin in to be graded so I thought I'd post an update... With the original pics I had just gotten my USB cam and had not figured out the lighting yet, which gave it more of a cleaned appearence in the photos.... That it does not have at all in hand. I was really thrown off with the comments saying it had been cleaned/polished and doesn't look like a circulated silver coin should.I was thinking I needed to rethink everything I'd learned about grading/cleaned coins. It doesn't look cleaned at all, and looks exactly like a circulated silver coin should look... But now I realize it was just my horrible photography, lol. It graded exactly as I'd hoped/thought it would, a details free EF-45. (though I wouldnt have been surprised if it had gone +/- 5 in either direction.) but 45's what I had on the 2x2 since I got it.. Yahoo.. I'm learning! Lol. So now that it's been graded details free does that make my $250 purchace sound like a better deal? Lol. I think I did excellent on this one.. One of my best raw cherry picks. Numismedia lists EF-40 at $510 & AU-50 at $810, and the CoinWorld priceguide EF-40 at $675, AU-50 at $1000. Obviously guides are a bit high for real world pricing.. But I'd say it should be worth a pretty penny.. I would never sell this coin, but for insurance purposes and cataloging my collection... Because guides don't list EF-45 do I just pick the $ amount between 40 & 50? Or 3/4 towards the higher grade? The lower grade? Or? (Although these are just cruddy iphone pics the color is more as it appears in hand without 8 led's shining directly on it, lol)

WTG Nathan, you did good ! I can't take pics of silver coins with my USB scope to save my soul, so I know what you're talking about.

Nice score. Always hard to grade from photos and many of the coins posted look cleaned because of lighting issues. The PCGS slabbed photo shows a much better color on the surface.

Quote: Always hard to grade from photos and many of the coins posted look cleaned because of lighting issues. I absolutely agree... It did look "shiny" in the fields due to the lighting in my horrid pics, I can see how people thought it may have been cleaned. At the time I didn't know if it was just my bad pics or if I needed to relearn how to spot cleaned coins. Even now I'm still not the best at photographing coins, especially with the USB cam.. I have a hard time with lighting, but I'm slowly getting better. It's kinda funny that I can capture the color better with my phone than a USB cam/camera...
