Is the coin in the pictures provided classed as a rabbits ear? It's been knocked about a bit and the "ear" is only small but it's a 1985 $1 and aren't these meant to be rare?
I would call it a rabbit ears. Its smaller than most. They are perhaps the most common occuring Cud on an australian denomination. It seems to have occured on quite a few dates since 1984 and the RAM seem to have done notging about fixing the problem. There must be a weakness in the reverse die around that point. Its probably worth a couple bucks but well worth hanging onto if you dont have one for that year yet.
