Well after a long battle, that has lasted for over 12 months I have finally purchased my first coins. They are Australia one pennies. A childhood fascination of looking for pennies with KGV's face on them. I know that KGV reigned from 1910 to his death in 1935. If I remember correctly.
So did KGV's face grace the 1935 1 penny? Possibly a small minting in 1936 1 penny?
1d 1911 (40), 12 (35), 13 (26). Selected average circ. (101)
1d 1932, 33, 34, 35, 36 selected average circ (F-VF) (300)
I know this auction house, under grades their items. They are always concerned about their reputation and I have been trading with them for longer than I like to admit.

Nice one KG5. If you're interested in die cracks and errors, this period is full of them. Also some nice varieties. Always interesting to noodle through.

As nightparrot has shown they didnt exactly slow down for 1936. The next year saw no pennies issued and it was in 1938 that the penny returned with a brand new obverse and reverse.

I believe George V died in 1936.
Got some pictures of what you bought?

It will be a week or so before I get my coins.
Yes it was in 1936 that KGV reign ended. It was on the 20th January 1936. I always thought it was 1935.
The teen KGV's cost me $1.15 each posted and the 30's KGV's cost 55c each posted.
Probably not the best buy in the world but not the dearest either.
Now I just have to wait to see what condition they are in.

Very fitting that they sent KGV out in 1936 by minting so many coins and no pennies minted the next year. Quote: 1935 pennies - mintage 3,700,000 1936 pennies - mintage 9,900,000
1936 the second highest mintage among Australian George V pennies So I have the end of the KGV's penny minting. What about the beginning? Was the 1st KGV penny minted in 1911?

Quote: Was the 1st KGV penny minted in 1911? Yes, that's right.

If you want some data on mintages / dates, etc, my resource website has summary pages of all Australian PD coinage. Might be useful to you if you don't already have access to the information. Link to currency guides follows: Australian pre-decimal currency guides index pageHope you find it useful.

You're welcome. I've started working on pages for individual dates, with more detailed descriptions and enlarged images. As time permits, I hope to have a reference page for each date of each denomination. I'm finding it quite a nice way to keep track of and appreciate my own collection, updating images as I come across a coin I like more. Anyway, glad there is some info you can use.

I will not be buying a catalogue any time soon!
Your site is a bookmark for me now.
All images are amazing. Grading section is sweet but I will have some extension question for the forum when it comes to scratches and dents etc

Fair enough too. I would certainly encourage getting information from many varied sources, and there are some very experienced collectors here. Enjoy noodling through your lot!
