Poll Question
At the forum the night before the White Mountain quarter release ceremony last week, acting Mint Director Richard Peterson posed an interesting question to the forum attendees. He said that the Mint has been holding back 100,000 of each of the Presidential dollars. The original plan was to issue them in complete sets when that program ends in 2016 or so. However, since the Mount Rushmore quarter is being issued this year and the dollar coin for the last president on Rushmore, Theodore Roosevelt, is also being issued this year as well, he asked if, as collectors, would we be receptive to a special 4-coin set being issued composed of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt Presidential dollars. He was estimating a limit of 50,000 sets, which would cut the number of complete sets offered by the Mint later to 50,000 as well.

So, my question is how does everyone feel about this set? Maybe we can help the Mint decide on a new product or not.

Poll Choices
 Heck yeah, Rush it up!
No way, full sets only please!
Presidential dollars? Are they still producing those?
 Other, please explain below.

I think it would be a nice set, depending on how much premium the mint adds.

It would not be too difficult or expensive for collectors to put together a set of their own, so it would depend on what kind of premium the US Mint would ask for them and what the packaging is. I would not necessarily jump at the chance to get one from the mint

Just to recycle old and a new dollar in a fancy box at a high price, is not going to garner too much enthusiasm.

It better be an exceedingly nice box or perhaps a unique silver Rushmore quarter in the box. A silver reverse proof Mt Rushmore quarter ? How nice wpuld that be.

This would only make sense if there was some sort of tie-in between the two events. Just to re-issue the four presidents again would not cut it. The president (Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt) on the face with Mt. Rushmore on the back would be a start, with some sort of commeration on the coin also.

Agree with the above, like the idea of doing something special for that but not if its just going to be the Presidential dollars put together, I can already do that on my own. The packaging would have to be beyond a amazing for that.

If I got the chance I would tell the mint to stop recycling the same coins over and over again in different packaging. If they want to offer more products than actually offer more products

There are too many "repackaged" sets containing the same coins over and over again as it is. The full set would be interesting depending on what is offered to house the collection. In the same vein before the first spouses got stratospherically expensive, the Mint offered a 4-coin per year subscription with a beautiful keepsake box for the collection before they scrapped the idea the following year. So the full set of presidents might be an attempt to revive the wooden box product.

I agree with what others have said. That said - if I created my own set from the items on hand or available soon... I'd have to come up with a storage or display...and that's where the mint might gain interest.

It is no worse than any of the other crazy specialty sets they have created in the last few years. But I actually like this one. Not sure that I would buy it, but I still think it is interesting.
