Would it grade? Should it grade? Details/genuine or real slab? (If you've seen this coin before, please no cheating. ) The "circ-cam" look (which I love) is usually indicative of SOME sort of cleaning at some point in the coin's life... it depends whether it is deemed "market acceptable" or not. I love the underlying crustiness too. Edited by coinpictures 03/03/2013 1:23 pm

Looks AU-53 and possibly a details grade. Appears to have some mild surface pitting on it.

I trust your imaging well enough to believe that this one has been lacquered. The highlights are just too unnatural for a normal-surfaces coin.

Looks AU53 ish with not much wear. I see some small nicks, but nothing that indicates damage. I've seen many large cents that appear this color.

Would acetone help with a laquered coin? I would think so. A soak might remove the stuff on the reverse.

I was hoping I could dig up a pic of the coin in the slab, but I don't happen to have one, apparently. This one goes the exact opposite of the 1795 Half Cent I posted the other day, where everyone thought it was in a graded holder, but it was in a problem holder. This one is currently PCGS XF45. My guess is that they dropped it a level rather than bodybagging the coin (this was prior to the advent of the Genuine holder).

I would offer no more than EF value. Attractive coin IMHO!

I'm in the SsuperDdave camp on this one. it does appear to have been lacquered at some point in its life. remnants appear on the rev. as for grade...I'm going with EF45 but no higher than AU50 with details. the reverse is not not strong enough
