Poll Question
So you're in an airport, waiting for a flight. You see the huge Red Cross/ United Way etc. sitting there with probably at least a few thousand coins donated by people who basically empty out their pockets of spare change from vacations. You...

If they don't do this already, I wonder if it would be profitable for them to sell the coins to collectors? I too have gazed at those big things of coins longingly.

"Start playing out scenarios in your head about how you could sort through without getting arrested" is leading. It is good to see that most of us are honest about out feelings.

I had another lady call me this morning, she said she had a full box of pennies that someone donated to her for what she collects for.... wondered if I wanted to get them from her.... Guess what.. But.. to answer the OP question, I always stop and just wonder what treasures are in that bubble..

SHAFTA9a, Face value plus a few dollars extra. Would that not make you both happy?

matthewvincent,
I thought the same thing. Ask them if they count it up you'd give them 10 percent over the amount collected. If they say no, go to the lounge and harass the bartender with their tip jar.

Actually, she had $22.00 in a Canada Mint box... I offered her $25.00 so, the extra would go towards her donations... she declined, stating that it would throw her numbers off. ... Couldn't get her to change her mind...

I've seen so many ponds, wishing wells, pools, etc. full of coins all my life. Just really used to it now. In some malls I've seen what could be thousands of dollars in coin in a pool. The only thing I wonder is how come no one is just taking them all at night.

Don't see why they would not sell right there as long as you are definitely giving them more than what they have. I have seen it is easier to make arrangements with someone you know on a regular basis to pick up the coinage and leave them with clean green spendable paper money. Relieves hassles for them! Many restaurants have such charity bins thay are happy to sell to you.
