I do feel guilty of dumping at a bank often. I use coinstar often, as they offer gift cards, and when you receive those, there I no surcharge. I have a 3k sqft backyard I am going to landscape, so I figure I will sort through some coin, convert to gift cards, then landscape.

I limit myself to bringing back one or two boxes of cents and buying eight to ten boxes at a time. John1

One bank where I have an account used to take my hunted coin back unrolled if I brought it back in a bag of $100 in pennies. Then they changed their mind and now they want it rolled before I bring it back. OK. Now I bring it back 10 to 15 boxes at a time and deposit it into my account. I now pick up at my other bank and do ALL my dumping with those "you gotta roll it" clowns. Right back at ya, ya jerks.

Well, 15 boxes of coins is a lot... I mean, I hope people realize that high volume CRHing can be a big strain on a bank.

well I suppose there is no right or wrong answer.. personally I think that more than 2 or 3 boxes is over kill. sometimes what ill do is if I have a ton of pennies I will throw some in the coinstar and take the rest to the bank that way you arent dumping an avalanche on them and you arent losing too much(10%) to the coinstar...

Quote: you aren't losing too much(10%) to the coinstar... I have never used a Coinstar but I understand that if you get a gift card Coinstar doesn't charge you anything. Banks don't have to be kind to CR hunters,it's a courtesy they provide. John1

My dump bank has a coin counting machine so I don't have to roll mine to return them. I only take two boxes in at a time. And I make sure that they're the same denomination. If one box is halves, then I make sure the other is halves. It just makes it easier on them. I try not to dump two days in a row at the same bank, either. It all just depends on what your bank will tolerate.

I have 4 dump banks with coin counters. I generally hit 2-4 of them per week with dumps. Usually keep to whatever half a bag is for what I am returning ($50 in pennies, 100 nick, 500 dimes, etc).
I try to roll some of my halves and sometimes nickels if a slow week. I'll dump those strategically as well. If I know I am travellinng for work I tend to dump more rolls or loose in the coin machine.
Coin star is nice for the no charge gift cards. Got about 600 in lowes cards w coin. Stinking coin stars take too long to count though

I have a connection at my bank. This one teller who I swear never gets a day off (always there when I go in) knows exactly what I am there for. When I walk in, if I have a box in hand she goes and gets a new one. She always checks to make sure they are circulated and not fresh. No hassle. The only thing that would make it more perfect is if she wasn't already married. :)

What I do is dump all my cents in the front yard, flinging them all by hand so that they scatter. Being a dirtfisherman at heart, someday someone's going to make a lot of finds!
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Well I once dumped a 5 gallon water bottle full of cents at a bank once. I put it all in my account so I think that made a difference. It turned out to be $805. Actually I thought it would be a 1000 or more...learned something on that one.

I don't just search pennies, but here's a photo of my receipt from my last coin dump yesterday. Doesn't include like $200 that I dropped on my way over to my dump bank's machine!

I have a really good dump bank. They paid me 150 to open a checking account, and they have a free self service coin counter that can hold 150 dollars worth of pennies. With that in mind I usually dump 100 or less so they don't have to come out and change the bags.

some of you guys kill me haha. When I search, there are no counting machines and all banks require people to have everything rolled. That said, I try and get 1 box...dump...get next box and repeat. Worst case scenario I will dump 2 boxes at a time. But there is one branch where they ALL have been quite rude and just unpleasant to deal with, so even though I dump one or 2 boxes at a time...they get it all...as Fat Freddy said Quote: Right back at ya, ya jerks.
