These were put out to celebrate North Bay's 50th anniversary of the Dionne quints in 1984. They were coined in nickel, gold plated,... and 60 were made in .999 silver.

Is there some site that lists this type of collectable municipal coin?

Thanks...

I think the closest forum would be the "Tokens, Medals, and other Exonumia"

It's nice of them to make a coin commemorating the kidnapping of 5 children taken away from their family so people could come and gawk at them in a circus like atmosphere.

It's OK. It was for the good of the Canadian people or so they were told.

But before they were "kidnapped" they were fortunately kept in their little homes oven or they probably would not have survived.

Smart doctor from North Bay made it happen and we're all thankful to him,...aren't we.........

The second story refers to alleged abuse by their father when they were returned to the family at the age of 9. I'm sure the novelty had worn off and the money was no longer there for them to turn the big profit like when they were babies. The one thing we can/should agree on is these kids had NO normal childhood and they suffered the rest of their adult life. The government made a ton of money for a lot of people but the Dionne family saw nothing. And since when is it OK to yank children from a family because the family is poor? You use charity to aid the family not rip the family apart. If the conditions were that horrible why didn't they take ALL the couples children? They had 5 more siblings. The governments reason for taking the children was because of the threat of germs, kidnapping and exploitation even though for the next 9 years all they did was exploit the children. Sorry for bringing a little politics to this forum. Read the stories above and you be the judge.

thanks... but I've already read them and more.

Sad and tough times back in the early 30's in most little northern towns. Luckily we didn't have to go through that ,..but some of our family members certainly did.........and we're better for it..

...always a good lesson to be learned from past missteps...
