So I recently got into the Presidential proof series. I want to open my proof sets for ease of display. I'm not worried about value because I intend on keeping them but I would like to show them off in my binder. My main worry is that putting them in 2x2s will damage them somehow. I've never heard of this happening, just worried.

My question is-can you preserve the "proof" quality of coins in 2x2s?

I put most all of my coins in 2x2's. I have several Presidential Proof coins in a binder. I haven't had any problems with proofs in 2x2's (yet). But I have not had them stored this way for a long time. The hard part is getting them in the Mylar holder with out scratching them. My biggest concern is the weight of the other coins bearing down on them, so I try not to over fill a binder with pages just to be safe. (For the crown sized pages it is pretty easy to put a pound of coins in a page, if you have 10 pages the coins on the last page have 9 pounds of weight on them...).

Just my experience, someone who has done this longer will comment.

Another option you may want to consider is you could always get a dansco date set for the Presidential dollars and then you could use that to store them all. A lot of people use 2x2s to preserve their coins though so they should be fine in there

It really doesn't matter what you put them in, they'll tone anyway. I put my grandson's in the blue Lighthouse albums and they love them. Hopefully, I've created 4 more numismatists.

I have one suggestion. I had purchased a Lincoln 100 year anniversary proof penny set that had toned. I removed these 4 coins and placed them in 2x2 plastic holders. I purchased a second set without tone and left them in their original packaging. Sometimes you can find the sets in pairs cheap enough to allow you to experiment with one and save the other.

The mint packaging gets a little carried away. You'll get one coin that comes in package the size of a shoe box.
