So, as I am working on my Proof Franklin set: https://goccf.com/t/121909&whichpage=1, I decided to go ahead and include the Kennedy proofs, 1964 - 1970 (including SMS). For this set, I would really like to try for DCAM, but I think the Accented Hair may be tough. Either way, I think that in the long run I will be happy with higher quality, deep cameo coins. Again, PCGS slabs, and I am going to make the minimum grade 65 DCAM. Varieties included will be the 1964 Accented Hair and the 1966 No FG. Here is the first coin in my set: Everyone please feel free to share your Proof Kennedy halves!

looks great! Buy the coin, not the holder......I think NGC coins would look great too

Beautiful coin. Did you decide to stick with pcgs for their reliability or aesthetics of their holders? I am just curious.

Why only to 1970? All my Kennedy's are in proof sets.

Mkmn123, that is good advice. I do occasionally find myself searching only for dates/grades. I need to make sure I study the coin before I decide to buy. Thanks for the reminder.
I think I mentioned this in my Franklin thread, but I just do not like the white NGC slabs. I have nothing against NGC and I truthfully have no preference or bias towards either PCGS or NGC as far as their services. Its purely my preference for the clear PCGS slabs... I much prefer the way they look and how the coin seems to float in the holder. For whatever reason the white slab just bothers me.
Also, I have a dealer who is PCGS certified and I get great prices on certifying coins. It just kind of works.
I may be shallow, but its totally cosmetic, ha.
Muddler, I may at some point include the 1971 to present proofs and silver proofs. This Kennedy short set is kind of an extension of my Franklin set and I like to read about the human error/craftsmanship element of the 1950 to 1970 proof coinage. After alot of reading, I find it very interesting to read about how the dies were made, polished, prepared by individual mint employees.
I do collect modern proofs (especially modern quarters) but I would not consider having them certified as they really should all be 69 or 70 deep cameo. I want my 1950 - 1970 proof coins in slabs to protect them as they are more valuable and to also create an aesthetically pleasing short set.
I dont know, those are my thoughts, thanks for the nice comments!

i am looking forward to the new additions to this short set. The accented hair has been tough for me to find in deep cameo with out having to sale my truck to buy it! good luck.

Have to wait 'til I get home... I only brought a couple Silver Eagles, a '91 Morgan, and the '87 proof Kennedy with me to work.
