robster: Original thinking! I like it!

I think Trout 1105 is most probably right, but there is a third possibility.
It could be an end of strip straight clip.
Examination with a high power glass may reveal the presence of file marks or otherwise.

Sel, there's a whole bunch of these "clips", right next to each other, just like a 50 cent coin. You might get a single straight clip, or two at right angles if you're lucky, but not a whole bunch at really shallow angles.

Sorry, shanew, but it's PMD: a vise job.

There are some key diagnostics for clips. Your coin shows none of them. What makes you think this is actually an error shane?

i dont think its a error I just think its cool as to who would why and when I have looked through these pennys 5 times and never saw it till last night I was trying some paper in a dansco like they showed my and this wouldnt fit come on you must think its cool
if you picked it out of your pennys you would show it in this forum just because its cool by the way no file marks but its a .4grams lighter

Hey shanew, I'm with you. While not a genuine error, I would still keep the coin. But, having declared that, I wouldn't try to on-sell it etc etc

Just nice to have something different.

PS I am VERY envious about your genuine collection though.
