1804-Silver-Liberty-Dollar

Hello CoinCommunity,

I would like to get some thoughts on this coin. I am trying to find out if this might be worth something or not.

I don't have much else to add, so I will just post and await your replies :)

The coin is a reproduction of a very rare coin, sorry but it is not worth anything.

Ah. I thought perhaps it may have been one of the illegally minted coins by Theodore Eckfeldt.
It closely matches the description of these illegally minted ones, "plain edge, artificial wear" etc.
The reverse side shows the code of arms. It appears golden in colour in this photo because of the lighting and camera settings I used to take this macro shot.

I have tested for magnetism with a rare earth magnet, and the coin is unresponsive.

In all likely hood, it is probably worth as you say, nothing.

The only way you will get an 1804 U.S. dollar is if it is a fake, copy, reproduction or whatever.
Provided it was bought at a really cheap price, keep it!
I know it is the only I will ever get one!

Eckfeldt may have been a counterfeiter, but he was a good Philadelphia craftsman. His fields may have been weak relative to the strikes of the Class I official 1804 novodels, but you can see images of 4 of his 8 known specimens on Wikipedia. Nothing like the mushy devices on your modern counterfeit.

Just to concur with the rest: This is a counterfeit.

Not the worst counterfeit I've seen for that date, though. Given how common 1804 is faked, however, there is a wide variety of quality.

For yours, the fair market value (retail, as a counterfeit) provided it is made of base metal is about $5-10, most of that value deriving from novelty. If it's made of silver, you're looking at its spot price alone.

Definitely fake but just think what you could buy if only it was real . . . .

Search the web for 1804 dollar and you will see why it is special.
