Does anybody know if the mint is going to do anything special for Kennedy's 50th year on the half in 2014? Also, could this be the last year for the half or Kennedy on the half? Thoughts?

There has been NOTHING said by the mint that would indicate they would stop production of halves. Nor have they indicated that there will be anything done for the 50 year mark or any changes at all. Any discussion is simply collectors speculating.

I was going to say something along the lines of smokeriderdon's comment.

Ive heard speculation on the forum, but there has been no official mention of either a change or discontinuing the series.

Would be a good time for either a special issue, new design, etc.

Well, if you want to have a discussion on what we think as collectors, lets do it.

I have said this before, I think that something along the lines of what they did for the Lincoln Cent on 09 would be cool. Different reverses celebrating JFKs life events. Perhaps one with PT 109, one representing the Cuban blockade, things like that. Then come up with a new interesting reverse and continue on.

!! I would love to see them do something like they did in 2009 with the pennies because I'm a huge fan of those pennies.

I hope it is the last year of the Kennedy half dollar, for purely selfish reasons. However, if we keep buying them, the will keep making them.

I would like to see the mint do something along the lines of what smokeriderdon suggests, something like the Lincoln set, but with Kennedy halves, that would be cool. I'd buy that. I also hope they continue to mint the halves into the future, I like CRH halves.

I agree with Zack because I love the 09' Lincolns and would love to see something done with the Kennedy half.

I want the half to stick around in some shape or form. Probably needs an update from Kennedy, although JFK has treated the denomination well.

*** Political opinion removed by the Staff ***

My choice, anyway, for a new preaident on a half or any coin or bill, would be Theodore Roosevelt. I mean, think about it. He got *** Inappropriate Language Removed by the Staff ***. The other three presidents on Mount Rushmore are on three different types of U.S. currency: George Washington on the quarter, $1 bill, and first Prez Buck, Thomas Jefferson on the nickel, $2 bill, and the third Prez Buck, and Abrahan Lincoln on the cent, the $5 bill and on a Prez Buck. Its time to give Teddy a spot on a regular circulation coin and/or bill, which is why I suggested a Theodore Roosevelt $200 bill.

*** Political opinion removed by the Staff ***

(Oh, and I am currently talking with the vending industry about making all of their newer machines they come out with, able to accept $2 bills and accept and dispense halves. If the vending industry accepts my proposal, maybe we can get these two denominations back into regular circulation again. I know its a long shot, but, wish me luck!)

Good luck with the $2 bill and half dollar thing....the public blew off the dollar coin because it was too bulky and you think they will use a bigger coin worth half as much? Ain't gonna happen....

...accept $2 bills? Why? They aren't in use? The public doesn't want them....

Back on topic:

I would love to see a nice presentation set of Silver Kennedy's MS, PF and, gulp, a reverse proof half...2nd choice would be a silver set of 4 with different reverses (like the Lincoln set mentioned above)

Smoke:

How about a Reverse with "Marilynn Monroe" coming out of a Birthday Cake with the words "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISTER PRESIDENT" around the rim!

Chuckster... HAHAHAHAHA! I'm in for that one.
JFK has served the denomination very well. I would be in favor of something specil for the 50th anniversary, but I am in favor of a change after that for 2015. Halves are my favorite denomination so I want them to stay...

A Teddy Roosevelt coin would be great, or go back to a traditional liberty design. We need to bring her back.
