I haven't studied this particular double die before but my gut feeling says it's a fake.I mean look at the beard. Is this what it's supposed to look like or is this just normal wear.Any input appreciated.

Yep, this is a fake.

I have a copy of this exact replica in my collection.

How could someone actually think they could sell such a famous error and not be held accountable?

I'm glad you guys see what I'm seeing. When I first saw it it I chuckled a bit, Crinkled my eyebrows and said "no way" should it be reported since it's a high dollar auction or should the seller be told it's a fake? and let them decide
Rest in Peace

Not even close on the date, motto & Liberty. Too mushy. The listing is criminal but the seller could just say "I didn't know."

I talked to the women, and long story short, she got ripped off by a coin shop. After I told her it was a sure fake, she removed the post and is going to try to get her money back from the Coin Shop.

And she did pull the auction. I hope she gets her money back if her story is true. (frankly even though there are some unscrupulous dealers out there I would have difficulty believe any legitimate dealer selling that as a real 55 DDO.)
