I've never purchased from this seller before, nor do I have any experience in any e-mail communication with this seller. However, when you take into account that this seller is one of the "first" E-bay seller's on-line and has virtually perfect feedback, why would they risk their reputation of a 1/2 million+ dollar's in sale over the past 15 years on a 10K coin? I'd be willing to say "YES" everything is authentic and above board with some personal reservation? Glenn

This could be a statement coin. I believe it is authentic, and I would be willing to take the risk up to about $7k, but I believe it will go higher. Even if this grades out MS60 you're talking about a $20k coin here! I think a few heavy hitters will show up near the end.
Best guess: $12,501.

Can't really grade out at "mint state" condition with the damage on the 3 digit...
But I would say, given limitations of the scans, it looks like a solid AU coin... I'm guessin' the hammer should come down around $8,500 which will be a nice buy if the coin does grade out at AU...
Unless of course, as has been known to happen in these "sense-less" auctions, you get a couple of bidders with auction fever duking it out and thinking that the NNC slab MS-62 grading is correct... LOL

The ultimate problem coin. I'd rather have one that's been cleaned with steel wool,or even holed. How could you have pride in owning a round top that's missing the top of the 3. We'll see how high it goes. There are obviously those who collect rarity rather than coins.

Grade-wise I think you're safe at figuring au58 with a small chance of it being higher (but I doubt it).
Good thing there's a 14 days return.
If I bought it, I'd be at ICCSs' office the very next day willing to spend the $50 for their one day service.

Keep in mind that World wide there are probably less than 10 Mintstate examples of this variety known. The circulated examples almost all have problem's with the 3 and the T.P.G.'s understand this as a weak strike or perhaps a worn die, same as the 1858 20 cent piece. It will be interesting to see who wins this piece? Glenn

Weak strike is not objectionable, but this coin appears to be damaged. A clear photo showing the complete 3 might make a difference of $1000 or more on this coin. There's a reason this coin isn't in a top tier slab, and this seller often sells coins in slabs other than his own when it's advantageous. Caveat emptor, excessivly.

Yes you're probably right DBM. One thing is for sure, you and I won't be bidding on it, but nice to stay on the sidelines and watch! It's about the only activity still FREE on E-bay. Glenn

Oh ya, Glenn... jump to the sidelines now after driving the bids up to $350... Keep your fingers crossed guys... I might end up with it... that is unless glenzy is just layin' in the weeds now waitin' to strike at the opportune moment... Have a great weekend guys... :) cameron93

Has anyone tried requesting additional scans or pics? He/she may be willing on this one.
I agree, if you could even make out the outline of the rounded top, you're talking the difference between full trends or better and 1/2 trends.

Hey Vance,
Mr "sense-less" dances to the beat of his own drummer...
He knows that he will get a high price for this coin without going to any bother of getting it certified by a "real" 3rd party grading company, or bothering with more / better pics, or dealing with inquiries...
Although there are many legitimate reasons to question or criticize this seller, as has been done in lots of previous posts in CCF... you can't take away the success he has in acquiring and selling a phenomenal amount of vintage coins... and somehow inspite of vastly overstating grades continues to maintain a really high positive feedback score...
Just kinda' makes you scratch your head, eh...?
Take care, and Have a Great Weekend!
