The grading company in the OP's link is owned an operated by that ebay seller who is selling them. A definite conflict of interest.

It's been that way for past 10 years... Like I said... you gotta' give the guy credit for being good at what he does... It just blows me away the phenomenal amount of vintage coins he gets a hold of, and some of it real nice stuff... He's operating out of Florida, so I'm guessin' that he's somehow got a line on a lotta' retired Canadians down there who are dumping their collections, or perhaps leaving them in estates to significant others who don't know what they may be worth... cameron93

Thanks. I didn't mean to hijack the thread with pics of my coin but sometimes the bird in the hand is worth more than the expensive gamble. It's going to be a fun auction to watch in the last 30 seconds!
Edited to add: It's PCGS-graded.

Hey Cameron93, don't worry, I have no vested interest in this coin whatsoever. If I did, this thread would not exist and I'd be in Stealth mode for the kill! Glenn

A lot of the coins that Centless acquires is from Snowbirds. For those of you you who don't know what the term Snowbirds is: " Canadian's (generally seniors/retirees) who spend 4-6 months during the winter in Florida." This seller advertises in Newspapers / Resorts / Trailer Parks / Hotels / anywhere and everywhere Snowbirds hideout for their winter getaway! He advertises for the purchase of old Canadian coins from these Canadian visitors and literally makes a handsome profit from 'em. Who knows what he bought this coin for. Maybe he told some unsuspecting 90 year old lady (who's Husband Collected for 50 years+) it was only worth silver melt at 30 cents? Glenn

Yes, I have great faith in and trust your "investigative" nature Glenn... This guy has made so much money off the backs of unsuspecting sellers and novice inexperienced buyers that it is / should be criminal... Re bidding on ebay nowadays... it's nice to see the past time becoming more popular... but, thanks in part to CCF as well, sad to say the days of "stealth" are long, long gone... :( cameron93

Well, this one's got me on the sidelines now also Glenzy... I usually wait in the weeds to strike at the end with snipes so as not to drive up the price... But on this auciton I decided just to jump in strong to try and shake off competitors and let other buyers know I was going to go all in... Took it up to $4 grand at $500 increments... Obviously that strategy didn't work as there are now 3 different bidders over $6,000 with a day and a half left to go... :( http://www.ebay.com/itm/CANADA-1893...140932557809Take care, and Have a Great Weekend! cameron93

WOW, it's gonna be interesting to see how she ends. I tagged it at $350.00 just to "watch" the auction with no intent to go higher. I'm guestimating now between $8-10K for this coin. It would be nice to ee what this would come back as from I.C.C.S. or C.C.C.S.? Glenn

I think it's gotten way out of hand, but I'm not surprised either.
I'm not liking this coin, but that's just me.
I hope the winner has some very deep pockets.

I think the winner of this coin will not be pleased with what they've just purchased.
Surely it will get cracked out and sent to ICCS, CCCS or PCGS. Buyer will realize they didn't get what they paid for (either in terms of the variety, or it being a problem and/or overgraded coin) and go to return it. Except the listing states:
"Removing coin from holder you receive it in voids return privilege"
The buyer will be SOL and the seller will be laughing all the way to the bank.

ICCS would be able to cross-grade, leaving it in the NNC slab.
I actually have one of these NNC/ICCS cross-grades. A 1896 5c downgraded from MS-62 to MS-60.

That is very surprising. I thought ICCS would only crossgrade coins from legit grading companies. PCGS is quite selective of the coins they will crossover. The plastic can hide imperfections, especially on the edges.
