One wonders what good the cross-grade is, if it is relying on the original grader.

But, something like this coin may not be consider appropriate for a cross-grade, for the reasons you mention.

But perhaps a quick opinion on cleaning, whether it is genuine, etc., could be obtained to allow the coin to be returned if it is a complete dud.

....a piece like that has to be seen and examined by hand...it also falls into a "problem coin".

Why isn't that piece selling at Heritage ....?

You've got to wonder about it ...and that grading company too....

I saw an MS65 48 Silver dollar that had all kinds of visible unmagnified marks on the bust ...so what gives with their grading.... a gem can't have visible marks on it...

Don't you guys have "Red Flags" going up on this one..?

As of today, no feedback yet for either party.

I'm keeping an eye on this one.

It's very interesting to see the one little spot on that piece (ie: the top of the 3) that's so important to the piece
...is exactly where you really can't honestly see it properly.... and that grading company.....

Just bringing this post to the top of the page as it's easier to find to compare the two pictures.
