I bought this 1970 Bermuda dollar to add to my fish themed collection:

Repackaging-Needed?

Repackaging-Needed?

The coin is fairly rare, only 11,000 were issued in proof sets, and took me several months to find. As you can see it came in a special first day of issue package. A thin plastic sheet covers the coin on both sides and the coin appears to be in great condition underneath. The marks in the picture are actually on the plastic cover, not the coin. I'm wondering if I should cut it out and put it in an Air-Tite for better protection, or just leave it alone. After all it appears to have survived 3 decades with no real harm. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thats a tough call. It is all in how well protcted you want to keep it.

If it were me, I would leave it in the in the package as is. To add to it's collectability, you have it in a first day of issue package, two stamps and a cancellation mark. I would think these all add to it's value. It already has been in that package for 37 years without harm.

There is a branch of philately called numismatic philately, in which stamp collectors collect pictures of coins on stamps, and also stamp-coin combination items, such as this first day cover. I would keep it intact; the stamps and coin should be worth more together than separately.
