I have a question concerning Walking Liberty half dollars, especially what constitutes a complete collection and what are considered error coins.

Everyone has an opinion of what a complete collection is but generally The collection is complete when you have all dates and mint marks in the album. The Red Book only lists one error the 1946 Double die reverse. Some may say a set is not complete without the seven proofs and you could get even more critical and have the no initial proof too making eight proof examples.

If you are using an album or a folder I guess a complete set would be to fill all of the holes with the correct coin. If you are making your own set then you can do all of the coins listed in the Red Book, all of the coins every minted in the set, one example from each year minted, or make your own combination

A lot of people start with the "short" set 1941-1947 PDS and venture back from there when complete. I'm working on the "long" short set 1934-1947 PDS (AU/MS) at the moment. And to CCF!

This is in reply to muddler and others in response to my post on Walking Liberty half dollars. I noticed in " Coin World" an advisement for a 1946 D/D RPM 1 MS-64 for $150.00. I am assuming this would be considered an error coin and therefore not a coin for having a complete collection of Walking Liberty half dollars. Is this correct? I have completed the short set 1933S to 1947 PD and working on the remainder 1916-1929 in MS 60 and above.

 Marine. No, that would not be a necessity to have a "full run" of Walkers. Now, should you get that coin if you have the money to do so? YES! Error coins like that are awesome in their own right, and do flesh out a collection. In other cases, like the 1955D D/D Lincoln Penny, many consider that error to be intrinsic to the set. Same for the 1922 no D. Regardless, some pics of your set to date would be AWESOME.

@MarineCoins1976,
Yes the one error that seems to have a listing is the one you mentioned. A complete Walker set in MS would be a sight to see and I (and I'm sure many others) would love to see what coins you do have. My sights are a little less lofty than yours, I am looking for XF or better examples and have been upgrading my set to fit this grade level.

muddler and smokerideron thank you so much for the advice and input. I think that I will buy it. muddler and Luvpennys would love to hear about your Walker sets especially the 21 21D and 21S and some of the earlier coins. These are going to cost a mint! Wow what a pun. It has taken me 10 years to get where I am now and probably another 10 years to finish. I still have not figured out how to put pictures and or the avatar description for this site. I guess I am not that competent on the computer. Maybe someone could help me by going step by step.

Does anyone understand the concept of quantitative easing and the relationship it has with the silver and gold bullion market. One would think that at the present silver and gold would be a lot higher. Any thoughts!

 to the forum Devil Dog. A complete collection is typically one of each date and mint less proof only issues and error coins. Specialists of a particular series would want the proofs, errors and other major varieties if any. A complete set of Walkers is a sight to behold in any condition. You have a lofty goal and once achieved you will have quite an awesome set. Ed ANA LM-3175 USMC 11/74 to 02/83

muddler-beautiful coins. I especially like the 16D obverse and the 1940 is gorgeous. Although not a key date or semi key the 40S is a tough one in higher grades. MS-64 and above-another tough date is the 19D and 19S. Does anyone collect half eagles say 1861 and below? The D and C are tough mintmarks to get and extremely high. My favorites are the Classic Heads from 1834-1838.
