I just have a quick question; if a Morgan is in a PCGS slab and it doesn't say anything about being cleaned or altered in any way, is there a possibility that it could have been cleaned? Thanks in advance!

Sure, a TPG grade is just an opinion.

PCGS is not infallable they have been known to misgrade coins. But not very often they inspect the coins for signs of cleaning and also do chemical analysis for cleaning agents. So they are pretty reliable.

It can go the other way as well. Here is an example of what PCGS called "Questionable Color - AU Details";

PCGS-Slab-Question

Looks good to me! That is why I bid on it and it's one of two "details" coins in my 7070.

Here is the other (ANACS - cleaned, scratched, AU Details);

As stated above...it's their opinion, but it is one that I accept.

Ok thanks, I guess that's why they say buy the coin not the slab.

PCGS is pretty good at detecting problems and I have personal experience with them labeling coins as "problem" pieces which subsequently were slabbed problem-free at ICG or ANACS. Nevertheless, you can find coins with obvious hairline scratches from abrasive cleaning in problem-free PCGS slabs. It's always a judgment call on the part of the graders who sometimes give a pass to coins they like. In such cases they may take the defect into account by reducing the assigned grade accordingly (net-grading).
