Poll Question
So I've recently been perusing "The List" for coins (I hope nobody actually calls it that), and it just seems too sketchy to actually meet up with some stranger and buy their coins. Now, I have sold a couple things on Craigslist (nothing coin related) and the transactions went OK, but this poll is just focused on buying coins on Craigslist. It seems like almost everyone (85% I'd say, and that's being generous) I talk to through email is some scam artist or some low life criminal hatching a scheme to harvest my organs....
If you have bought coins on Craigslist, I really want to know what your experience was like.

I only browse. I've NEVER heard of a successful transaction on Craigslist when it had to deal with coins or bullion.

I've got some great, great coins off of Craigslist! For great prices too! There's other threads about this on here. You definitely need to wade through all the ripoffs and scams but good deals can definitely be had! I picked up an AU 1861 3 cent for $50, after some negotiating, as well as a good number of other coins for great prices and even a few trades (my non coin items for coins) And I've never lost a body part... And I've met people for coins in one of the top 10 most violent cities in the country (I don't live there, I live in the sticks, redneck at heart ) But then again I also have a LTC and am always carrying... But still.. They don't know that.. I'd say use Craigslist as a resource.. Just be smart about it.. Unless your from my area... Then in that case it's horrible... A complete rip off... Stay away! lol, just playing around! Lol, Zack, you cant say "never" anymore... now you know of some successful transactions! I've bought that silver 3cent, an unbelievable natrual toned 1938 D/S AU buffalo($5, and I didn't know it was a D/S until more recently), slabbed W burnished ASE's (traded something worth not nearly as much for these too... What's not worth alot to me/you can be "gold" to others) as well as about 4 other deals... O, and I've sold 2 lots of 1000+ wheats for .05-.06 a coin too and am actually in the works of selling another 700 coin lot (wheats again) soon, earliest 1909-end, many teens and later BU reds... Like I said, weed through all the crud, unbelievably overpriced junk and scams and good deals can be found! (Check the barter section!!) and another thing is you have to check ALL the time... Because legit, good deals get scooped FAST!

You can trade on Craigslist? Hmmm..Might have to check that out. And I'm glad to see someone who has had so much success on Craigslist.

I have liquidated all of my 40% Kennedy's on Craiglist to avoid ebay fees. Most of the coins I have seen for sale on craigslist are way overpriced. On a side note I have been able to move my 40%ers easier when silver was high ~ $35+ ounce vs people looking for a bargain when it is down at ~ $30 ounce. Go figure. I have amassed 8 rolls of 40%ers that I need to move to fund other projects but silver has been down now for 2 months go figure.

If you buy anything off craigslist especially of value just use the local police station as the transaction place. This will scare away the vast majority of scammers and almost everyone that is just trying to rob you except for the truly stupid. Whatever you do dont even use your house as the meeting spot

We have a better version of Craislist locally that I have used a couple of times successfully. I find craigslist hard to use because of the boring site. (all the black and white hurts me eyes )

After a few nights of people wondering around his house he finally had to call the police. Someone else I know told me he loves that list. He gets rid of all his junk that way.

I've sold a few things but it is shaky...especially if it is something you are buying that takes a lot of cash. They can claim the have a nice coin and just show up to rob you. Like everything else...has it's pros and cons.

Depending how much you use craigslist one of those prepaid phones from 711 may not be a bad idea. You could give out the number and if it gets in the wrong hands it really doesn't matter since its a throw away phone anyway. Quote: Great advise. Ive sold stuff on there in the past and it was fine. I have a separate email account I use when I do that and basically just keep the personal information non existent except for the actual meet

So it looks like the consensus is that most people here either occasionally buy coins from Craigslist, browse but have never actually bought, or avoid it altogether. I would have guessed that some people here frequently buy coins using it, but my assumption was wrong. I'll admit that it is very fun to browse though!
