Weight is an easy way to tell for cheaper counterfeits; however, most of the more sophisticated ones are within proper Weight Tolerance so where weight can disqualify a bogus coin right away, it isn't good enough of a criteria on its own.

Beyond that your best bet is to familiarize yourself with how genuine coins look and feel and practice, practice, practice. :-)
