To be quite honest this coin looks like it is well worn and has been put on a buffing wheel All the dings and missing detail is due to circulation wear.

I disagree and think its either Grease Fill or a slightly weak strike.

cheers for the reply's guys , I have checked it against well worn circulated coins and their is a resemblance with the 4th and 5th roo's but these coins are also covered in dents. would you be able to buff out all of the dents , even from the background ?

2005 Dollar coins were often missing details due to filled dies. A bit more common on the rev than the obv, and I think that is what happened with this coin. It has a few 'bag marks' which is a loose term for most of the marks, dings, scratches, gouges etc that our circulation coins seem to be plagued by, even when they appear to be brand new. The damage to the R in Dollar looks like a gouge. Any chance of a close up of the Cud next to the E, plus what's on the top of the B as well?

The spot on the H looks like oily die weakness but it's interesting that defect is directly behind the problem with the large roos head/ear. This could mean the planchet is slightly thinner at this spot displaying as strike weakness. Of course it just could be a scrape.

Having trouble getting a real good close up nancyc , coins so bright and can only zoom so much before it blurs , but am not sure on the Cud next to E now, possible dent grrr .Am hunting for a USB microscope as we speak , I can only see the mark above the B in the photo. The purple penny this coin was advertised as uncirculated and I am still hoping that's the case so if the ear was scraped could it have happened at the mint

I'm sticking to my buffed coin theory that close up pic clearly shows the buffing lines in the field and on the rim above the ELI. From the sheer number of dings, dents and bangs on this coin there is NO way it could be graded as an Uncirculated coin.

I'm pretty sure it's not Unc, as it really has too many problem areas. I'm also leaning towards it being buffed, or polished with Brasso, or something similar to give it the high shine. Sorry.

Thks to everyone for their input on this one , I would never have thought about buffing a coin to make it look new how sneaky,i should name and shame eBayer.I will keep coin as an example of a grease fill/weak strike/brasso buff coin

I just can not go any longer without asking! Is the silver images of a $1 Goldy? That feels much better!
