just like to know if a small crack on the rim is a very common thing , this is on a 2008 $1 coin.
I know I need to get the book on coin errors its on my shopping list .

That looks like a vsry tiny misstrike. You will find it to be extremely common.

ok thanks ,
I have another $1 coin here that has a grove or slot running all the way around the outside edge of the rim but I think some one has been into it with a fine cutting wheel and a dremmel maybe trying to make a to header or some thing .
chuck it back in the till I think.

the more I look at it the more sure I am its been cut . how ever they must of had a heck of a thin cutting wheel .

Looks like it's going to split in half eventually,might be a natural thing,coins do split like that when there is an impurity in the planchet.
