I don't usually do much with these, but I have an uncirculated ASE with no W mint mark. As I understand it, all of the 2006 coins, except for the reverse proof, are supposed to have the W mint mark. Have any of you heard of this as an error for this year?

Susan,
Did this Eagle have a blue box with a blue velvet pouch? That is how the 2006-W Uncirculated Eagle(burnished finish) was packaged from the US Mint. The standard 2006 bullion coin did not have a mintmark.

Thanks, Bio. According to the Red Book, all 2006 ASE's were supposed to have W mint marks. Apparently, their information is incorrect. After I made the post here, I looked on ebay and there are a lot without mint marks, so I figured the Red Book had it wrong.

This coin did not come in the pouch. It's a regular Uncirculated coin.

Thanks for responding.

The Red Book really got this one wrong, it would seem.

There were fewer than a half million of the Unc W coins--250k in the anniversary set and another 209k (according to one source) sold by the mint. These are the coins that sell for $70 or so.

The remaining nine million or so, sold by the "green monster" box through their bullion distribution channels, lack a mint mark. Just like any other year.
