Fished from the only coinstar in town, last nite.
I assume this is a piedfort? I would think something like this would've jammed the rig. 1st I've seen, as I quit doing most foreign in the '80s. That's a nic for comparison. Can you folks tell me what the edge-lettering translates to? thanks

DECUS ET TUTAMEN = An Ornament and a Safeguard.
Should be 3 mm deep. Yup, we have very thick money.

Looks like a standard one pound coin. This particular reverse represents northern ireland.

Same as all our other £1 coins! Theres a good lot of variety in them - as Bacchus has said, this one is to represent northern ireland.

Living in Northern Ireland, My Avatar is a photo of the Silver Proof with Gold Plated Design,(of which only 750 were minted) my daughter bought me in 2008 for Xmas.
This one is from The Heraldic Series, depicting the imfamous Broighter Collar, a Gold Celtic torc found near Lough Foyle Co. Derry, in 1896.
On the coin the collar is superimposed upon a celtic cross decorated with spiral and geometric symbols inspired by the Book of Kells with a lovely little pimpernel at the centre, this design appeared on the £1 coins from 1996 and 2001.
