I am guessing that this 1808 Mexican 8 is a VF, but I'm curious as to some other opinions. Also, any guesses as to the value? Thanks!

I should say something between a Very Fine and a Fine. I don“t have any idea about the value

I'm not to sure about the grade, but I know the value. First I must say that the face looks weird, but it could be because of the date. I have one of those those coins in a high grade, but is fake. But since it's so close to the original it's worth $400 (Date says 1776). The coin dealer I brought it to says the real ones can be $600 in a good condition. I'm not sure if the date has any thing to do with it though. Yours isn't in such good grade so I'd say $550-$575.

If you suspect your coin to be fake, look on the outer rim. If you see a line sticking out, it's fake and been made in a cap-like thing. If no line, it's genuine.

Hello Archraz
Nice portrait dollar. Your coin looks good a quick glance, I would say strong VF. I suggest you check the edge, not for the "line" mentioned above but to be sure the edge design is the proper rectangle/circle/rectangle design and there are 2 overlaps in the design at 180 degrees from each other.
As for value, that coin is a common date, common condition and would run from 40-90 dollars depending on finding someone who wants the numismatic value vs just selling for silver.
Joseph7420 If your coin is a fake it is worth very little, the $400 estimate is a "wish" number. Your coin would look different because it bears the portrait of Carlos III, not Carlos IIII like the coin posted. These portrait 8 reales bring premium prices, when real, in grades of AU and above but are quite common in the lower circulated grades. Counterfeit coins abound and unless you have a rare contemporary counterfeit (that circulated along side the real thing in the same time frame) your coin is unlikely of much value. Please post your coin in the regular world coin section and let us see what you have, there are several collectors that can determine real/fake from good pictures and will help you learn more about your coin. Please try and post pictures of the edge as well, that is critical in examining these coins.

jfransch & Joseph7420- Thanks for hte input and suggestion about determining the authenticity of my coin.
I'm 99% sure that my coin is fine since it is silver, is of proper weight, has the proper edging details, has two overlaps exactly 180 degrees across from one another, and I've been collecting 8s since the late 1990s. So I know an obvious fake when I see one. I mostly was just asking some thoughts about grade since the reverse is a tad weak in the center.

I figured that it was a nice VF. Thanks, guys!
