I just received a coin bought from ebay, the seller was an experienced coin dealer with 100% feedback but I am almost positive it is a cast copy.
I just want to be sure before I ask for a refund without having to pay return shipping.

The surface does not look porous as described, just a rough texture with no details. There is a slight die rotation, and the arrows on the reverse are filled in quite a bit

not an expert but I love indian heads and honestly it does look a bit fishy. dunno bout a fake but could it have been plated or something? look around the rim for areas of sanding off the excess of the casting and excess areas of uncommonly rough areas.

Nice, clean fingernails there. My cuticles need some work after seeing these images. Oh, the coin. It doesn't look good at all. I can't say one way or the other as to whether it's just damaged or is a cast copy but either way, I wouldn't want it.

If you link the original auction we can give you some idea if this could be refunded without returning the item. If the seller's images look like your images, you'll likely need to return it with delivery confirmation.

yeh and honestly dosent it kinda seem like the color is off for a non slabbed coin? I mean no color at all and the texture seems off , although most of my indians are just general circulated or just g/vg but just dont seem right I wouldnt take the chance send it back m8 how much did you pay?

I paid almost $10 for it. It looked a lot better online than in person though, he used good lighting to hide the texture.
I know I'll be returning it, I just don't want to pay the $1.69 hah

Maybe I'll just tell him my concerns and see if he offers

Without considering this specific piece, why would someone fake 1863 cent? there are better years out there, and 1861 should look the same instead of a single digit (faking "1" is easier than "3", right?).

As for the coin - my money is on genuine.
Rest in Peace

My money is on this coin was lost in 1864 and retrieved from the ground 100 years later.

Have a look at the rim above Liberty's head dress and make your mind about THAT!
For confirmation, do a comparative ring tone test against any known genuine copper nickel cent.

It looks like a dug harshly cleaned coin. Check the weight and I bet it checks out.

I don't see anything.. Maybe a bit of a broad strike, but nothing unusual. What am I missing?

dug, cleaned, auctioned
simple as that
you'll likely pay shipping unless you hold a negative feedback threat over their head

Personally, and much like BH1964, I'm overly impressed with your hygienic logistics....

Looks fake to me. Although it very well could be a metal detector find. But the lack of detail is such that it leans towards a fake for me
