I'm new to this forum and wanted to get some thoughts on an interesting coin that I found the other day.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures... I had a hard time getting the camera to focus on the coin. I finally resorted to using a magnifying glass to try to get some pictures of the details, since they are so small.

The planchet is blank, but you can see an flattened area on the edge where the coin was stamped on both sides. You can make out part of the Lincoln Memorial on one side and the date of 1963-D on the other.

What type of error would this be and is there a way to estimate potential value (if any) due to this error?

Thanks for looking at this post. I appreciate any comments you might have.

This is an Off Center Strike Error. I don't know much about these but I do know that when they have the full date, they can have a premium. This one is gorgeous with the full date IMO. Not sure on a value but I'm certain one of the experts will know.

The values for off-center strikes seems (to me) to be all over the map. Check ebay to see what is selling and use 'off-center strike' in your search terms. I know that having the date is better than not having it and the more off-center the better.

Where did you find it?

I follow off center prices quite a bit on ebay. Early 60's seem to sell anywhere between 20 and 40 bucks.the more red and better condition ones command higher premiums.Of course with the full date such as yours

I cannot believe a 1963D off centered strike in this condition brought $200 certified or not. Could you post the link to that?

Thanks for the all of the views and especially the comments.

It was actually a co-worker who found it. She was telling me she had found a jar of old coins when cleaning out an entertainment center. I thought she might have some 90% silver in there, so I asked her to bring the coins to the office and I would help her look through them to see if any coins were worth any money.

I was very excited to run across this penny, which was shocking to her (she's definitely not a coin enthusiast). I think she would have thrown it out or spent it had I not seen it first.

I told her I would try to find out a value for her.
