We're into a different realm nowadays. Something that seriously straddles the collector/investor fence.

There are SML/GML collectors, but the vast majority of the production is for bullion investors. And people look for micro-premiums to BV, as they should.

Then there are the collector coins which are made mostly for collectors, and come with sometimes INSANE premiums to BV. And we see complaints about that on here regularly.

The above coin is the mid-point. They have been so far commissioned by bullion investor companies, but have gained an collector following. High premiums, but much much lower than NCLT.

The silver 1.5 oz sells around 33% premium to BV. If the above matched that, it would mean about CAD$540.

Nothing wrong with pretty fractional gold coins! Much cheaper probably than the O Canada 1/10th gold (1st coins beaver) subscription

Here we go...first the 1.5oz silver ...now the 1/4oz gold....next there is going to be a whole fractional set that those who bought this gold coin and the 1.5oz silver are just going to have to have. I'm a bullion collector as well and I hate that when you start collecting a particular item to have a bit of variety, the market gets flooded with so many of the same item, just slightly modified, and now to keep a collection going you have to get them all. I don't want them all but like to have the collection. It sux that there is no fine balance to this thing.

Just like the SML. Start off with one per year (which is great) And then you start adding privys, reverse proofs, gold plated, colorized and on and on. Why cant they keep it simple and gratifying to have just 1 per year with the anniversary coins and 5oz and 10oz thrown in?

Obviously money..... but it sucks for collectors that are on a budget and miss out on having a complete collection because they cant afford to keep up. Sadness. Rant over.

Well, I broke down and got one of these polar bears. Gold crashed royally today; it was too tempting.

I hope they do come up with another 1 1/2 silver coin and keep the Northern theme going. Maybe a more suitable capsule will eventually become available/developed.

Got most of those, canadian_coins. The Nahanni National Park coin is exceptional. The 2011 Grizzly is a bullion coin. What about the 1 1/2 oz polar bear coin? One of, if not the nicest bullion coin I've seen so far...
