Receding habitat!
At least, they have not been shot at for many years!

If I was an ASE, I probably would feel like I had a security blanket around me if I was encapsulated!

24 hours a day camera on nest. Juveniles still staying put. They were born in November. I saw one and knew because the head was only half white.

Here in Connecticut, Bald Eagles are successfully living along the Connecticut River. Odd, since we usually associate these bird with western US and Canada.

Australia has it's Wedge tail Eagle, Europe the golden eagle, and the U.S. the Bald Eagle. They are all of roughly the same size, but the Bald Eagle is very slightly the largest. For survival, these birds need some of the largest wilderness areas of the Planet.
All have been featured on coins. Certainly, the Australian and the U.S.ones have been on modern coins, and the Golden Eagle on ancient Syrian and Egyptian tetradrachms.

Against the Andean Condor I saw in San Diego Zoo, they are all quite small by comparison.

What a magnificent bird.

Sorry, Ben Franklin. The turkey may be a bird with certain characteristics more befitting a national symbol than a bald eagle, but the bald eagle just plain looks much better. Looks like vanity isn't only a recent problem in the USA....

@HOLLYWOOD - holy moly.
