Howdy folks,
This well worn copper was a recent find from a random boxlot, and it's now my oldest USA coin.
It's far from great, with a *nearly* unreadable date, but it does have what seem to be original surfaces. About that date: Is it possible to narrow it down to one specific year, just by studying and comparing the visible features to known coins of this age bracket? There is a ghost of an impression where the date would be, which under the proper lighting appears as either 1794 or 96.
Is this coin gradable? Any rough guesstimates as to fmv? Hope the pics are sufficient. Thanks for looking in.

Plenty of markers to work with, especially that crack through the E in LIBERTY. S-49, I believe.

Thanks for the PCGS link, philadelphian, but I am not too interested in giving out my c/c number for a ten day trial, and even less interested in spending $100/year for a subscription that would be of limited value to one who primarily collects non-USA coins.

Oh sorry! I was just trying to link to a pic of this variety, and picked a pretty one that showed the late die state obverse crack. I sure don't have any PCGS membership, and somehow I could see the pic. Just google 1794 S-49, and you'll see a bunch of examples.

OK, thanks. That die crack pretty much identifies this coin. I appreciate the help. Never imagined I'd own old USA copper from the 18th century. Too bad there is no hole in the 7070 for this variety.

There can always be a hole for it if they still make X-Acto knives! Congrats!
