I just read an artice on Numismatic News that has really confused the devil out of me. It says the following: Proof Dollar = Philadelphia (14,288) Uncirculated Dollar = West Point (8,110) Proof Half Dollar = San Francisco (8,538) Uncirculated Half Dollar = Denver (8,372) Proof $5 gold = West Point (1,309) Uncirculated $5 gold = Philadelphia (1,674) The number is () = reported sales but no date given in article date 3/28 It seems like every location is getting a piece of the action. I haven't seen any mention if each of these mintmarks are actually imprinted on the coin? Can anyone verify this? What I find odd is that reported sales for the $5 gold uncirculated is more than the proof coin. What makes this so strange is that NumismaticNews seems to making a big deal out of the fact that all mints were involved in making these coins. http://www.numismaticnews.net/artic...er-mintmarksIs this going to change anyone's collecting habits? This array of mintmarks was not included on the Girl Scout coin. It would seem to me that the fact that gold coins were being minted at Philadelphia would be worth a little ink or some reference. I haven't seen anything.

All of the coins have their mint marks on the reverse even the Philly ones. There all on the right side in the middle/bottom half of the coins.
As far as the uncirc gold selling more its to early in the sales to say how theyll pan out, but people may be wising up to the fact the uncirculated have historically been the rarer of the two.
Im not going to buy anything that I wasnt to get the mint marks all covered, I do wish the uncirculated half didnt draw the Denver mint though. They always seem to put out lower quality coins and the halfs I got had bag marks that were eye sores so I sent them back for new ones.

The law Congress passed required all the mints to make the coins. I am with the others - the Denver mint seems to be the weak point in the minting process these days.

My Denver mint one looked good to me, but I also was just not expecting much so maybe I was pleasantly surprised.

The Mint News Blog reported opening sales for the proof version of the gold coin as "6,209" vs. the "1,309" you've noted from Numismatic News. One or the other has a typo or otherwise incorrect/incomplete data. BTW: the two sources are in sync for the Uncirculated gold coin with 1,674 coins sold. I'd go with the Mint News figures at this point and assume that the Proof coin is outselling the Unc coin. just my thoughts... Quote: Is this going to change anyone's collecting habits? It won't change mine - I collect the Unc versions of the modern commemoratives and will be sticking to just those issues. @jbuck: I say again, you NEED it!

Quote: I am with the others - the Denver mint seems to be the weak point in the minting process these days. Id love to know why that is. Is it their presses or do they just throw all the coins together when theyre minted and not have the same quality control? The best answer I think I've heard was the thinner air Quote: This was my thought as well.
By the way, that three-coin proof set is still taunting me. Even if those numbers were wrong youd think some people would figure it out at some point. It does seem only fitting for you to add that to your collection with your love of Ike.

I am getting both dollars (proof and uncirculated), which satisfies the Eisenhower collection.

I thought that I had purchased a proof and uncirculated of each (dollar and half dollar) but when I got the message from the mint verifying my purchase I noticed that I had failed to purchase a single uncirculated half dollar. I hate to spend $4.50 in shipping fees just to go back now and order the uncirculated half dollar. ($5 on top of $16 to purchase one half dollar.) I'm going to have to either postpone purchasing that coin or try to figure out what else I need from the mint so that shipping fee will not be a big bite on the total purchase price. I'm am tempted to buy the $5 uncirculated Macarthur coin and will probably add the 3 roll set of the new ATB Quarter. I forget when the introductory price for the general coins will end. Does anyone have fix on that date?

Ghostrider - it is a 30 day introductory offer - so you have about 20 days left? I ordered another set of the halves yesterday along with an S bag and roll of the new quarters.

I just ordered one more set of the halves too (BU and Unc). I am looking at current sales and they seem to indicate this will be a low-mintage series. Not a lot of popularity here.
