I have a Mercury dime with a deep scratch on the face. I believe the grade would be like ms-63. But the scratch really ruins it. So how much value is lost from it? I will upload some scans but Please remember I'm not always able to do it right away. IF anyone don't mind the scratch I will offer to trade for proof lincoln cent(s). I will create a post in the trade section if needed but right now I'm asking about much lost value that is removed from the coin. I also got to find the coin too. Not sure where I placed it. It's a common date.

If its a deep scratch on a common date it's probably gonna knock it down to melt value.

but it depends on the date mint mark, a 1916-D in MS63 would be worth a lot even with a bad scratch as would a lot of other date mint mark combinations, but any of the more common stuff yep - melt I'm afraid.

Thanks but Ouch! The coin got damaged by my brother a while ago. It has like four easy to see big scratches on the face that the scanned photo didn't show. Also the colors got changed too.

That line you see on the face is it

The coin is white with no black spots or marks. Tomorrow I might upload better photo's with a camera

Hi guys, I tried to reply before but my laptop crashed. I am not very sure what caused the damage but he was only like four when he done it. He also killed my red belly piranha's. It was only two of my Mercury dimes he got to. I had them left out because I just bought them. My other one was a 1916, I paid around 15 for it.

I guess it's not worth to trade or sell it then.

You can sell them to me. I'll give you 10% over face value for them, rounded down to the nearest tenth of a cent.
