Hello all,

Found a nice lot on the bay and talked to the seller - hes a lovely guy, very honest, thrown in all types of stuff into the lot - byzantine, egyptian - you name it.

Anyway, huge bulk of common coins with quite a few nice ones tucked away in there and I would love to try out the old system again - someone bids n' buys and I trade my stuff for the lot. I, unfortunately, dont have a paypal account (age restrictions grrr). Lots of stuff around to trade - Roman, UK, some American. Fossils and Geological specimens if that floats your boat!

Some-Help-Wanted!
Some-Help-Wanted!

I see a few nice things - a nice sestertius, what looks like a Vetranio minted coin, theres a nice silvered coin in there, theres a ptolemy, some islamic, I'm told a crusader coin, what looks a bit like a magnentius (probably isn't) and, with any luck, the fabled Jovian I'm after will be nestled in there. Oh, and an ungrade for my Cross-in-Wreath!

I must have missed it, but are you asking if you should buy them, or asking for help to sort/catalog them?

As a young person I cant (legally) have a paypal account so I'm trying to rustle up some help - the idea being someone else makes the ebay purchase and then I trade with them. Inside the UK I could even go part way with dough.

*tumble weed rolls by*

If anyone wishes to help or comment on the lot (perhaps ill be able to guilt an unsuspecting elder in the family) then ill be asleep. The offer stands for a trade!

Looks like there are some interesting coins there. Don't you have a family member that can open an account in their name?

Not awake late at night. Ill have to buy the lot and put the ones I dont want back onto ebay. Ill have to go convince them its a good idea.

If I bid then the buy-it-now option goes - but could the final bidding exceed the current buy-it-now?

bidding vs buy-it-now could go either way. The bidding may be slow and it not reach the buy-it-now price at the close, or bidding is busy and it go above the buy-it-now price.

'Buy it Now' trumps all bids. Now is now

£68/$100 + postage. I think I could make a profit and keep the coins I want. I stopped when I broke even on the uncleaned coins (I made an alright profit - enough to go to McDonalds with - and I got to keep some coins). I think the same approach would work here - auction off the Fel Temps and Gloria Romanorvms along with any Gloria Exercitvs' I find in there.

RIGHT, I'm going to go get £70 and bug my sister.

Ah, no luck. I can try bidding but I can tell that that will not go so well - people with deep pockets going over £1 a coin are likely to swoop on this lot. I cannot wait till I get paypal!

I think that eventually you will be glad you passed on this lot. I really would advise spending 70 quid on one decent coin. All these are forgettable - but a stunning coin you will show off again and again.

Ben- I love your style and your ambition, but the days of getting gems in the uncleaned lots is slowly slipping away. Even rarer coins you might find, arent really worth all that much because of the thousands of years of time. All these lots have long been picked over, possibly many times.

In a nut shell I must wholeheartedly agree with Bacchus2. - Well said.

AN and Bachuus - I dont really do the 1 really nice coin thing! I want to learn through the coins and the best way is to have lots of them I've found. Plus, this only went for £26!! Gah!
