I've seen these before. Very cool coin! PCGS Genuine holder.

Too bad it didn't get a grade, Maybe the mint should have left it alone and just put it in a holder with a certificate or something. Beautiful Morgan though. What do you think it would have graded at? I would guess MS65 or 66

I'm not sure how PCGS could verify the engraving 90 years later unless records exist somewhere that the first 100 coins were engraved as such and given as gifts to whatever.

This is my favorite (although not mine) and it even gave me the idea to engrave 2 Silver Eagles similarly and give them as wedding gifts but unfortunately I could not find a skilled engraver.

The coin eventually sold on ebay for ~$600

OK, I'll ask the stupid question because I'm here to learn. Released is spelled wrong. I'm familiar with using a 'V' instead of 'U' on some coins and buildings but I don't understand the reason for the E instead of L.

I find the engraving crude. I would want to see the records that pcgs used to determine "Mint Engraving"

I hasten to remark:
This is the equivalent of taking an Eisenhower or Susan B. Anthony or any Presidential dollar and doing the same thing.
These Seated Liberty dollars, while considered precious today, were nothing special in 1865.
Who knows, in a hundred years, what collectors may deem 'precious?'

But yeah, take an American Silver Eagle and have it engraved! It'll still be an ounce of silver, n'est-ce pas? NO?

Quick mental calculation - ASE first appeared in 1986. Plus 25 years = 2011. Silver Anniversary Gift?
