Take a look at this seller's ebay items, folks: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odk...=0&_from=R40I'm questioning whether any of these are genuine coins. Zoom in on the Morgans and check out the fields. To me, these all look like they rolled off the same assembly line ... Am I wrong about this? On the positive side, the seller has 100% feedback. Yet, NO RETURNS are accepted.

I don't think they are fake, but someone sure polished the heck out of them. Probably a customer who brought them to that pawnshop, figuring they would get a premium since they shined up like new! Just my thought, RK

Morgans might be polished, but the Seated dollar looks wrong to me.

The morgans look genuine but all polished. The Seated dollar, I feel fairly confident is fake. I am not knowledgeable enough to comment on the authenticity of the 4 reales and ancients but they also all appear to be problem coins.

What makes me suspicious about the Morgans is how in the close-up pics, there's a very fine pitting effect that appears common to all of them. Perhaps, this effect has something to do with the cleaning? They all share a highly polished appearance.
The seller responded to my question about the "Seated Dollar's" weight. It's 18.5 grams, being well under the 26.73 grams that it should be. In this case, the weight is a dead give-away. I suggested that he consider withdrawing that item.

If anything, that Seated spent a long time in the ground and was then polished so hard it's probably only half as thick as it should be.

The 1846 Seated dollar is either a). a poor quality fake or b). was a metal detector or shipwreck find. Leaning towards fake though.

Polished beyond a doubt on the Morgans... You see Walkers given this same treatment often to try and simulate a higher grade.

The seller wrote back to me and has ended the Seated dollar fake which weighed but 18.5 grams. He was going to check the weights of the Morgans. Apparently, he was victimized when he bought the seated fake.

I just heard back from the seller. He took all the coins to a local dealer and sadly learned that they are all fakes ... including the Morgans! From my perspective, the micro-porosity that I saw on the surfaces was telling. All of the Morgans evidenced that, and I thought, "What are the odds?" The polishing was probably done to help subdue that effect. Note that the seller has ended the " Seated dollar" auction, as well as most of the Morgans. I trust that he'll withdraw the other fakes, too.

Well he has the morgans back up for sale now. He is a dishonest seller and needs to be reported.

LincolnGuy, he appears to have removed most of the Morgans. It may be that he has yet to confirm and/or remove the remaining ones? I'll reserve judgment for a day or so ....
