Buying the correct stapler that is. I finally got a flat stapler for my 2 x 2...now I sit here pulling out all the old staples just to re-staple them all with the new stapler. I wish I would of spent the $12 when I first started and saved myself a lot of time and aggravation.

Ahh well...at least I have a small amount of Verdi-Care to help conserve some of the coins that need it. Not to mention it allows me the chance to return to the wild some of the coins that I thought were miraculous finds back when I just started getting back into collecting.

On a side note. A staple remover is just about useless for removing staples from a 2 x 2. I use a small blade (not to sharp) and slide it under the ends of the staple to lift them up then push one end with the flat part of the blade and use the blade to pop it out. A couple hundred down with a few hundred more to go. LOL!

You could also just use pliers to squeeze all the old staples flat. I wonder how many coins get little rim dings from being hit by staplers?

I used a pair of needle nose pliers to flatten the few thousand I had before I got the right stapler.

cladhunter---What's the name/model of stapler and store where you bought the good flat stapler that works the right way with 2x2's?

Fat Freddy,
I have this one and love it. I got it for under that price by shopping around on the internet. I think I paid around $15. Clad Hunter, I also used to use needle nose pliers to clinch the staples flat. it works alright. Would save you some staples and maybe some time. However, it is fun to go through your collection!

1. Place the entire 2x2 in a vise and that would flatten all the staples.
2. Hit the entire 2x2 with a large hammer to flatten all the old staples.
3. Jump up and down on those old 2x2's to flatten the staples
4. And yet the best thing is to just use a pliers to flatten the old ones.
5. Or send all to me and no more problems.

Using smooth jaw pliers is still my preferred method.

LOL! Love the ideas "just carl". I thought about using pliers but then I figured I would just change the staples. As mentioned above...gives me a chance to inspect coins that have been sitting around for a while.

I just purchased one from my local STAPLES office supply store. I believe it was $12 + tax. Works great but my wife complains as it is a bit noisy. Most likely because of the fact of how the staples are bent and going through the cardboard of the 2 x 2 does not help. I just tell her to go to bed if she don't like it. LOL!

I hope not to many. I make sure no part of the stapler is going to hit the coin when stapling the 2 x 2. Considering most of my coins are pulled from circulation...a rim ding would go unnoticed on some of the coins. :)
